Adult Day Habilitation

AHRC's Day Habilitation Program provides individuals with the necessary services and supports to pursue their personal interests, learn valuable life skills and attain their goals.

 

AHRC aims to assimilate the individuals served in our Day Habilitation Programs into their local communities. Staff members set up and accompany day trips, volunteer projects at many Long Island-based charities, and work directly with select individuals to help them attain employment through AHRC’s Vocational and Supported Work Programs.

Senior Day Habilitation

AHRC's Senior Day Habilitation provides meaningful and functional activities for older individuals who need a change of pace. In an atmosphere that encourages older individuals to maintain and even enhance their quality of life, Senior Day Habilitation offers a unique experience where content is directed by the individuals served.

 

Most individuals served in our Senior Day Habilitation Program have "retired" from other types of services. The supports provided help maintain their independence, productivity and sense of responsibility.  Focusing on nutrition, hygiene, health and exercise allows the individuals we serve to participate in a broad range of activities.  In addition, individuals receive clinical services as needed.

 

To keep the program fun and engaging, seniors get to choose from a list of activities each day which include arts and crafts, bingo, golf and a variety of community integration experiences.

Program Without Walls (PWW)

Program Without Walls (PWW) is a community based program for individuals with developmental disabilities who are 21 years and older. Participants in this program learn new skills, build relationships and develop self-esteem through the concept of volunteerism. Staff assist individuals in volunteer and recreational activities at various art galleries, parks, department stores, museums, restaurants, fitness clubs and volunteer sites. This program is also an excellent source of community experience and training that has helped people segue into competitive employment.

 

Of course it isn’t all about work. Individuals engage in various recreational activities as well. A plan and calendar are developed for each individual for their choice of activities. Rather than traditional Day Habilitation in the classroom, staff are trained to identify opportunities for choice, self-management while working and playing in the community.
