February is Dental Health Awareness Month! AHRC's Educare Center Celebrates with a Visit from Dr. Matthew Hyde DDS
February is Dental Health Awareness Month! AHRC's Saul and Elaine Seiff Educare Center celebrated this year by having Dr. Matthew Hyde DDS, visit the school to provide a fun, educational class for students on preventive dental health, good dental hygiene, and what they might experience when they visit the dentist.
The event serves to de-mystify the whole experience of going to the dentist for children, as well as reinforce and practice good oral hygiene. Dr. Hyde presents the information in such a way that our cognitively diverse student population can understand, and in the process makes it lots of fun!
Teachers prepared students for Dental Day by teaching simple songs and making giant teeth to practice brushing on.
In order to accommodate all our classes, Dr. Hyde presents three times to different groups throughout the day, and makes sure that every child receives a "goody bag" filled with dental related supplies and games.
For Educare staff, it is an effective time to communicate the information to student's families, and answer any questions that they may have. It also allows AHRC to provide the appropriate referrals to specialized dental clinics if requested.
