About Us

We cheer for those who want to learn.
We support those who want to be part of their community.
We respect those who want to work and contribute to society.

Are their efforts less important because they are intellectually disabled? Or do their special challenges make each accomplishment even more worthy of support?

At AHRC, we believe in the life well led. And whether that life includes special personal obstacles or is spent in service of others, what matters most is that we each treat every day as an opportunity to explore our own unique potential. Because regardless of our intellectual capacity, it is in reaching up and out that we most grow as human beings.

As you read about the comprehensive services we offer, we would also like you to meet some of those whose lives we have touched ...and those who are helping children and adults with intellectual and other developmental disabilities live fully enriched, engaged lives on their own terms.

Our Mission Statement

NYSARC, Inc.-Suffolk Chapter (The Agency), A private voluntary non-profit agency, is dedicated to applying its professional and financial resources toward improving the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities from birth through end of life.  The agency provides individuals with opportunities for attaining the highest level of self sufficiency in personal growth and development through coordinated and individualized early intervention, preschool, and school age services; vocational training, supported work, prevocational training, day habilitation, Medicaid service coordination, and residential services.  For the parents/relatives/caregivers of the individuals receiving services, support services such as guardianship are offered.

Suffolk AHRC Prayer

Dear God,
Every person has a purpose, and, while your eternal plan is not known, we do reaffirm our role in helping those in need.  It is our prayer that we will ever be mindful or our responsibility as parents, families and friends of people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities, helping them to a full measure of the precious life you have given.  Guide our association so that it may be ever strong and selfless and bestow your blessing on us all.
Amen.
