Suffolk AHRC's Vocational Training program is designed to provide meaningful work in a number of settings while improving functional skills and raising self-esteem. Pre-vocational, vocational, social and clinical services are provided to facilitate progress within the sheltered setting. The programs promote choice and active involvement for each participant and are located at three sites: -2900 Veterans Memorial Highway, Bohemia 55 Crossways East, Bohemia 14 Old Riverhead Road, Westhampton Beach
Vocational placements for adults with developmental disabilities range from one-step assembly work in one of our three sheltered workshops to competitive employment in communities throughout Suffolk County. A broad variety of training and employment options allows us to provide program participants with the work experience that will satisfy their adult need for paid employment, while teaching and improving functional skills.
The Work Activities programs operate under the guidelines established by the New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD) and the Department of Labor. Referrals may come from the New York State Office of Vocational Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID), the New York Commission for the Blind and Visually Handicapped, and local school districts.
All Work Activities programs are free of charge to all participants. Transportation is provided for Vocational Trainees in the Sheltered Workshop program only. For more information, call (631) 585-0100.
