Vocational Programs
No matter who you are, the ability to earn a paycheck has a huge impact on self worth. AHRC Suffolk gives motivated adults with intellectual and other developmental disabilities the opportunity to learn valuable vocational skills leading to an appropriate community employment situation. We offer vocational assessments and a variety of training experiences – all under the careful supervision of experienced vocational staff who are expert at helping each individual find his or her ideal job and develop the skills to succeed.
Of course, performing well in a job takes more than a set of specific skills. It takes commitment, perseverance and personal responsibility. It takes the ability to deal with obstacles and work as part of a team. With the help of our vocational staff, participants gain valuable experience in AHRC’s Work Centers, learning to become valuable, loyal and conscientious employees.
In addition to the hundreds of adults we serve, AHRC Suffolk’s Transition Services program works with local school districts to provide vocational training for high school students with intellectual and other disabilities. Working alongside the adult participants in our Work Centers, they learn a variety of skills to increase their employability, and receive assistance finding competitive employment.
